Our caring physicians and staff will help you feel as relaxed and comfortable as possible throughout your visit with us. After your surgery you will be able to continue your recovery in the comfort of your own home.
The information included in this site should help you prepare for your surgery. If you have any questions about your surgery or our facility, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
Earning Your Trust Through Quality
One of the most important things we do to earn your trust is to participate voluntarily in the quality assessment program of the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC).
Our accreditation tells you that the AAAHC’s independent team of health care professionals has taken a close look at us and has found that we meet their rigorous, nationally recognized standards for quality health care services.
Accreditation demands a high level of commitment and effort. It challenges us always to find better ways to serve you. It reminds us constantly that our first and most important responsibility is to see that you receive the best care we can possibly provide.
Our accreditation gives you that extra measure of confidence you want in your health care services. It’s one more way for us to say “We care about you.”
When You Arrive At Suncoast Surgery Center
It is important that you review and follow any preoperative instructions that your doctor has given to you.
For your safety and protection, you will not be allowed to drive a motor vehicle following your surgery; therefore, please arrange for someone to drive you to and from the Surgery Center. You may also wish to arrange for someone to stay with you following your surgery.
If You Must Cancel Surgery
If for any reason you cannot keep your scheduled appointment for surgery or you experience any changes in your health, such as a cold or fever, please contact the Surgery Center immediately. This will assist us with our daily scheduling of procedures.
The Day of Surgery
• Bring your insurance card(s) and any forms that your doctor requests that you bring with you.
• If you do not speak English, you should arrange for an interpreter to accompany you throughout your visit to the Surgery Center.
• Leave all your valuables, including jewelry and watches, at home.
• Do not wear contact lenses, hearing aids or make-up.
Your anesthesia will be provided by an anesthesiologist and a certified registered nurse anesthetist (CRNA) highly qualified in outpatient anesthesia. The appropriate type of anesthesia will be determined by your surgeon in consultation with the anesthesiologist/CRNA and with your approval. For most ophthalmology procedures, topical anesthesia (eye drops) will be used in combination with intravenous medications. Your anesthesiologist/CRNA will answer any questions that you may have before surgery. Even though your medications are listed on your patient chart, be sure to talk to your anesthesiologist/CRNA about any medications that you are currently taking, even over-the-counter drugs and vitamins, as well as any allergies you may have to medications.
Immediately following your surgery, you will be taken to our fully-equipped recovery room where a nurse will closely monitor your blood pressure and pulse. The amount of time you spend in recovery will depend on the type of surgery and/or anesthesia that you have had. Most likely your entire visit in the Surgery Center will be between one to two hours.
Before you leave the Surgery Center, a nurse will review with you the written summary of your doctor’s postoperative instructions.
When You Get Home After Surgery
For best results, be sure to carefully follow your doctor’s specific instructions regarding diet, rest, activities and medications.
One of our nurses will call you after surgery to see how you are doing. At anytime, if you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to call your doctor or the Surgery Center.
You will receive separate bills for the following:
• Suncoast Surgery Center for the cost of your pre-operative evaluation, nursing personnel, medications, supplies and the use of the operating and recovery rooms,
• your surgeon for performing your surgery,
• the anesthesiologist/CRNA for administering the anesthesia, and
• laboratory tests, if applicable, and any other professional services that you may receive while at the Surgery Center.
Suncoast Surgery Center accepts Medicare and most major commercial insurances, including HMO/PPO plans.
For your convenience, we will file your insurance; however, any balances, deductibles or uncovered services remain your responsibility.
To facilitate the surgical process, please check with your insurance company for any pre-admission requirements, such as second opinions and pre-admission authorization.
If you are uninsured or a self-pay patient, you will be required to pay for services before your scheduled surgery date, unless other arrangements have been made with the Surgery Center. We accept cashier’s checks, Mastercard, VISA, Discover and American Express.
