How to Select a Laser Vision Specialist

Training and Experience

When it comes to laser vision correction, experience counts. It is important to know where your eye surgeon became skilled at performing the LASIK procedure. Just attending a lecture or seminar does not qualify your physician as having adequate professional training. It is equally important to select an experienced eye surgeon with a reputation for quality care and excellent outcomes.
Dr. Frantz is a pioneer of laser technology and has been performing laser vision correction since 1987 when he served as assistant surgeon in the first Excimer Laser surgery of a sighted person in the United States. His many accomplishments are outlined in detail in the section “About Jonathan M. Frantz, MD, FACS.”

Surgical Equipment

A competent surgeon will have state-of-the-art instrumentation needed to perform pre-operative screening for patient eligibility. If it is determined that you are a good candidate for LASIK, details of the recommended procedure should be thoroughly discussed with you. While very few surgeons have their own laser equipment due to its enormous cost, your surgeon must have access to the latest technology.
Dr. Frantz has on-site VISX Advanced CustomVue WaveScan Systems with Iris Registration in both his Fort Myers and Naples offices. We offer iLASIK, which is a combination of the IntraLase technology and Advanced CustomVue. IntraLase is a 100% blade-free approach to creating your corneal flap, the thin flap of tissue that Dr. Frantz folds back in order to perform your vision correction procedure. Our Center for Laser Vision Correction is dedicated to providing the highest standards in quality, performance and care. More information is included in the section “A Dedicated Center.”

Affordable and Convenient

In selecting a laser vision correction specialist, capability and experience are vitally important. Laser vision correction is considered elective surgery; therefore, it is not normally covered by individual or group health insurance policies. At The Center for Laser Vision Correction, we are happy to offer payment plans to those who are interested. 0% financing is also available.

Reputation

As with other professions, reputation is probably the most significant factor in judging an eye surgeon and an ophthalmology practice. Dr. Frantz’s personal dedication, extensive surgical experience and outstanding educational and research background are complemented by his highly trained support staff at Florida Eye Health. We welcome your inquiries of our peers, patients, the professional organizations to which we belong or any other reputable sources of knowledge of our practice. We want you to feel completely comfortable with our practice and our staff.
