Intraocular Lens Implants (IOLs) are artificial lenses that replace the eye’s natural lens that is removed during cataract surgery. At Frantz Cataract Center, you may choose to have a premium refractive procedure with the LenSx laser or traditional surgery.

Bladeless Laser Cataract Surgery with a Premium Intraocular “Lifestyle” Lens and Laser Relaxing Incisions (LRI): You may choose a PanOptix Trifocal IOL, or the Vivity Extended Depth of Focus IOL. After your surgery, your visual outcome will greatly decrease your dependence on glasses following surgery. With a PanOptix Trifocal Lens, you can read a book, drive a car, and play golf or tennis with increased freedom from glasses and the ability to focus at near, far and intermediate distances. The Vivity Extended Depth of Focus Lens provides improved night vision as well as sharp distance and intermediate vision.
Bladeless Laser Cataract Surgery with a Crystalens IOL and Limbal Relaxing Incisions (LRI): If you have astigmatism, a Toric IOL makes it possible to treat the cataract and correct a higher corneal astigmatism at the same time. If you have both a cataract and corneal astigmatism, you will not regain high-quality distance vision after cataract surgery unless the astigmatism is also corrected. The unique design of this lens provides significantly improved distance vision; however, you will likely require glasses for near and intermediate distances.
Bladeless Laser Cataract Surgery with a Basic Monofocal Lens with Laser Relaxing Incisions (LRI): If you have a lower amount of astigmatism, you can have your corneal astigmatism corrected with laser relaxing incisions (LRI) at the same time as your cataract surgery.
Bladeless Laser Cataract Surgery with the Light Adjustable Lens™ By RxSight: The unique feature of this lens is that it is specifically designed to allow patients to have customized prescription adjustments made to the implanted lens after surgery. This makes achieving your desired vision more attainable due to the individualized customization provided during post-operative light treatments. Traditional Cataract Surgery with a Basic Monofocal Lens: This is the only option that is covered by Medicare & most insurances*. If you choose to have traditional cataract surgery with a basic monofocal lens, you may decide to have both eyes corrected for distance vision and wear reading glasses for near vision, or have both eyes corrected for near vision and wear prescription glasses or contact lenses for distance vision. If you have astigmatism and you choose the Basic Monofocal Lens, you will likely require glasses or contact lenses at all times in order to achieve your best vision.
Monovision is only an option for patients who have previously experienced success in monovision contact lenses – where one eye is corrected for distance and the other for near vision. Because approximately 20-30% of individuals do not adapt well to monovision, we do not recommend this solution for people who have not been completely satisfied with outcomes from the use of monovision contact lenses. This option is available with Toric LRI or the Basic Lens.
