Local Cataract & LASIK Specialist Dr. Jonathan Frantz now utilizes an innovative technology called the ORA (Optiwave Refractive Analysis) System, which continuously monitors the measurements of a patient’s eye during their cataract surgery. This incredibly accurate, real-time display of the patient’s eye provides Dr. Frantz with an unprecedented level of valuable information about the eye that allows him to customize each patient’s procedure to give them the best visual outcome.
Prior to having this new technology, surgeons have been unable to assess the quality of vision during the procedure and would have to wait until weeks after the procedure to determine the accuracy of the results.
According to Dr. Frantz, there are many patient benefits to having ORA-guided cataract surgery:
- The ORA analysis can be utilized to optimize any cataract procedure, whether the patient is having Bladeless Laser Cataract Surgery or basic cataract surgery, and regardless of the intraocular lens implant that the patient and he have selected.
- The analysis guides him in the correction of the patient’s eye to help ensure optimal outcomes.
- If a patient has astigmatism, the ORA System may also improve the accuracy of their correction to help reduce the chance that the patient will need eyeglasses after their cataract procedure.
With a commitment to providing his patients with the most advanced technology available, Dr. Frantzis continually looking for ways to better serve his patients. In May 2012, he lead the way in bringing Bladeless Laser Cataract Surgery to southwest Florida. He is the first and most experienced surgeon in our area to offer the technologically advanced LenSx Laser, a bladeless computer-controlled laser that allows him to plan and perform surgery to exacting, individualized specification not attainable with other surgical methods.
