Many of you welcome Dr. Frantz into your homes, cars and offices through the TV and Radio everyday. After seeing him “everyday” we though you’d like the opportunity to get to know him a little bit better. We had Dr. Frantz answer a few fun questions as part of our “Eyes on our Doctors” blog series. Stay tuned, as more will follow!
What made you want to be an Ophthalmologist?
Eyesight is our most important sense. Nothing is more gratifying to me than helping people see better. We are so technologically advanced, that the new technologies attracted me and made me strive to be better.
In your free time what do you enjoy doing?
I love college football, particularly the Miami Hurricanes. When not working, I enjoy spending time with my 6 children, 3 dogs, 3 cats, and fish. Most importantly, I enjoy spending time with my wife and former FOX4 news anchor, Jennifer Crawford.
What is your most memorable day of being an ophthalmologist?
Doing cataract surgery for the first time in 1984. A close second is the first time I performed Laser Cataract Surgery. This was the first Laser Cataract surgical procedure performed South of Tampa in the US.
Do you remember your first case and if so what happened?
I remember the anticipation of waiting to see how the patient did the next day. Thankfully, the procedure was overwhelmingly successful.
Who is your ophthalmic mentor/hero?
My recently deceased Uncle, Dr David Light. He was a great Ophthalmologist as well as a kind and caring man.
Who is your real life mentor/hero?
Abraham Lincoln and General George Patton and my dad.
If you could have dinner with one person, throughout all of history, who would it be and why?
George Washington, because he demonstrated the courage to start our country against significant odds.
What superhero would you be and why?
Superman, of course!
