Jonathan M. Frantz, MD, FACS, medical director of Frantz EyeCare, is pleased to announce that Retina Specialist Oren Z. Plous, MD, has joined his medical team. Dr. Plous specializes in the medical and surgical management of diabetic eye disease, macular degeneration, simple and complex retinal detachments, and uveitis. He will see patients in the Punta Gorda office of Frantz EyeCare at 109 Taylor Street.
“We have added Dr. Plous to our medical team for the convenience of Charlotte County patients who have retinal problems,” explained Dr. Frantz. “Many of the procedures and injections that Dr. Plous performs can be done in our Punta Gorda office.”
Originally from Detroit, Michigan, Dr. Plous received his medical degree from Wayne State University College of Medicine, completed a residency in ophthalmology at the Kresge Eye Institute and a fellowship in vitreoretinal medicine and surgery at the University of Kentucky. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and an Assistant Clinical Professor in the Department of Ophthalmology at the University of South Florida.
Dr. Plous has been a principal or co-investigator on many FDA-approved clinical trials and has presented numerous lectures to medical students, residents and medical professionals on topics in vitreoretinal disease and uveitis. He has published articles in and peer-reviewed manuscripts for prestigious journals and organizations, including the American Journal of Ophthalmology, the Archives of Ophthalmology, and the Association for Research and Vision in Ophthalmology.
