The Breakthrough CyPass Micro-Stent - Frantz EyeCare

If you have Glaucoma and Cataracts, we have a solution for you!

Introducing the Revolutionary CyPass® Micro-Stent

If you need cataract surgery and you have glaucoma, don’t worry. Frantz EyeCare offers an amazing breakthrough procedure in conjunction with cataract surgery to save you time and money.

Always a leader in ophthalmic treatments and technologies, Frantz EyeCare is proud to introduce the latest advancement in glaucoma patient care, the CyPass Micro-Stent. CyPass helps patients reduce or even eliminate the need for prescription eye drops to control their intraocular pressure (IOP).

“The device is tiny,” said Dr. Jonathan Frantz, Founder and Medical Director of Frantz EyeCare. “You won’t even feel it or know it’s there after surgery. The stent is implanted at the same time you are having cataract surgery. The procedure is minimally invasive, and the device works in harmony with your eye’s natural anatomy.”

And the greatest news? According to the two-year COMPASS trial, approximately 70% of eyes treated with the CyPass Micro-Stent achieved a 20% reduction in IOP versus 58% with cataract surgery alone.

The COMPASS trial is the largest randomized, controlled trial for CyPass Micro-Stent completed to date and included more than 500 patients. CyPass Micro-Stent enjoyed superior outcomes across the board in this trial. In fact, 93 percent of responders in this CyPass Micro-Stent group were still medication free after two years.

How Does the CyPass Micro-Stent Work?

The CyPass Micro-Stent is a tiny tube that is implanted into the eye during cataract surgery.  It is placed just below the surface of the eye and is designed to reduce intraocular pressure (IOP) by improving the eye’s outflow drainage pathway.

If glaucoma is left untreated and IOP builds up, this can eventually lead to optic nerve damage and even blindness.

What is Glaucoma?

Glaucoma is a condition associated with pressure in the eye that affects around two million Americans. It damages the optic nerve, the part of the eye that carries the images we see to the brain. As glaucoma worsens, cells die in the retina – a special, light-sensitive area of the eye – reducing the optic nerve’s ability to relay visual information to the brain. In the most common form of the disease, open-angle glaucoma, peripheral vision usually narrows, then other blank spots occur in the visual field. Symptoms of the less-common form of the disease, angle-closure glaucoma, include blurred vision, severe eye pain and headache, rainbow-colored halos around lights, nausea and vomiting.
